SUMMARY:Virtual High-Level Forum on Quantum Science and Technology: Strategic Pathways for the Global South
DESCRIPTION:Date & Time: Wednesday\, August 20\, 2025; 09:00 – 10:35 (GMT) \n[ Flyer ] [ Programme ] [ Speakers’ Profiles ] \nThis Virtual High-Level Forum aims to explore the evolving global landscape of quantum science and technology (QST)\, with particular focus on its relevance\, challenges\, and emerging opportunities for countries of the Global South. As quantum research transitions from theoretical frameworks to applied technologies\, impacting secure communication\, advanced computing\, sensing\, and materials science\, it is essential to examine how the Global South can meaningfully participate in and benefit from this transformation. By addressing scientific\, institutional\, and policy dimensions\, the forum aims to foster dialogue on how Global South countries can co-develop quantum research ecosystems\, avoid technological exclusion\, and contribute to a more equitable global innovation architecture. The Forum will convene leading experts\, policymakers\, and academic leaders to engage with the following three interrelated thematic pillars: \n\nGlobal Trends in Quantum Science and Technology: A review of current international research priorities\, institutional infrastructure\, and emerging quantum programs\, analyzing where the Global South stands in terms of access\, capabilities\, and participation in global QST development.\nScience Diplomacy and International Cooperation in Quantum R&D: Exploring strategic models for fostering cross-border collaboration in quantum research and innovation. Topics will include open-source hardware/software ecosystems\, equitable access to knowledge\, and the role of multilateral cooperation frameworks in enabling inclusive participation in quantum innovation.\nBuilding Human Capacity in Quantum Research: Focusing on designing responsive academic curricula\, establishing technical training programs\, and building regional and international networks to support the next generation of quantum researchers\, engineers\, and policymakers.\n\nTarget Audience: Researchers\, scientists\, academic leaders\, policymakers\, science diplomats\, and professionals involved in emerging technology governance\, research management\, and higher education reform\, particularly those interested in quantum technology development\, international cooperation\, and innovation policy in the Global South. \nContact Person: \nDr. Mehwish Qayyum Durani\nHead\, COMSATS Centre of Climate & Sustainability (CCCS) &\nDirector (Coordinator for International Organizations & Climate Change)\nEmail: mehwish.durani@comsats.org
